History and Background
The Saturna Community Club (SCC) is an
organization comprising members of the Saturna Island community. It has been operating since 1932 and has been
incorporated under the Societies Act since 1945.
In the past, the SCC has supported the
development of the Athletic Association, the Saturna Firefighters
Association, the Parks Canada Liaison Committee, and the Saturna
Parks and Recreation Commission. These organizations all now operate
independently. The SCC also advanced money to the Parks and Recreation
Commission for the purchase of land for a park and to protect Lyall
Creek.
Historically, the SCC has focused the
energy of the Island community on providing opportunities to work
and play together, celebrating the rewards of island life, and finding
ways to improve its future.
The SCC continues to sponsor the Saturna
Community Access Network and holds forums for discussion and debate on issues of importance to islanders
.
