Session Title:  5.  Getting Around – Without a Vehicle

Convenor:      Joan Selby

Note taker: Joan Selby

Participants: Steve Dunsmuir, Ellen McGinn, Joan Selby

Summary of discussions:

Why do we need to think about this?

Possible options:

1)     School has project for kids to walk or ride to school: get them used to this early

2)     Zip cars: community-owned cars that people share?

3)     Battery-operated cars or golf carts: but what about big hills?

4)     Volunteer drivers: each person takes one day a month to drive people around on the island to where they need to go.  Driver is on call for that day.

5)     SEEC bus:  use it in a number of ways e.g., meet each ferry and deliver people back to ferry.  But need to build a timetable.  Would it burn more gas than cars?
