Community members and visitors alike are invited to attend Saturna's Wildfire Preparedness Day and to learn from our local FireSmart team how we can work together to reduce the risk of wildfire on Saturna Island. The firetrucks will be on display (a great photo op for the kids!), and our local volunteer firefighters will be on-hand to demonstrate wildfire safety and to sign up interested landowners for free wildfire hazard assessments of their properties. A landscaping expert will dispense advice about maintaining a wildfire-resistant property and garden. Our Emergency Services team will educate residents, new and old, about wildfire protocols such as emergency alert systems, evacuation routes and muster points. There will be a family-friendly game with great prizes, as well as snacks and refreshments. There will be hotdogs for sale, and volunteer firefighters will lead tours of our Emergency Services Building.
