Coastal Fire Region open fire ban begins Friday May 13 at noon

In an effort to help prevent human caused wildfires, fires will be prohibited in most areas in the Coastal Fire Region, starting at noon on May 13.

The prohibition covers all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

That’s with the exception of the area known as the “Fog Zone” from Port Renfrew to the northern tip of Vancouver Island and the Haida Gwaii Forest District.

The prohibition applies to burning small amounts of materials, stubble or grass, and the use of fireworks or burning barrels.

It does not ban campfires that are a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller, or apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.
